IN TODAY’S WORLD OF INTERIORS, WE’VE SEEN MANY STYLES OF HOME FURNISHINGS, RANGING FROM THE VERY MODERN, TO THE OLD AND TRADITIONAL.

Designs that have stood the test of time eventually become what we today call “classics”. Classic furniture can bring elegance and comfort to your home for generations to come.

With changing trends, the ability to forecast what will be demanded by clients to design and decorate their homes to positively impact and enhance every facet of their lives can be achieved thanks to International Industry Seminars run in conjunction with trade fairs such as Designex, Furnitex and Decoration & Design, held annually. After attending the recent Furnitex, Decoration & Design fair in Melbourne, I am inspired to share just one aspect of what the forecast holds for home decorating.

So what’s ‘In’?

Everything classic or vintage, from Louis inspired furniture, crystal chandeliers, over-sized stand alone mirrors as well as mirrored furniture to ornate or Chinese inspired lamps. I hear you say, “Our home couldn’t take a classic style.”

We are influenced by laid back and relaxed coastal living, which can also be minimalist and modern. But in saying that, it doesn’t mean you can’t introduce a collection of items placed in a room ,or corner of a room, which brings elegance back into our lives.

Consider your rooms. Do you have a piece of furniture that can be a centre piece, be it a wing back chair or mirror. Indulge in the flamboyance of vintage style with bold shapes. Introduce plain and patterned prints to unite the room. If stained timber is too heavy for your style, why not go for a neutral, white or a limed look. Curtaining alone can create that “classic” style. They don’t need to be heavy as tradition dictates. Sheers have come a long way and are perfect for our climate.

Against all the odds, memory lives. Artefacts and collectables preserve a connection to the past, defy decay and validate experience. The objects and interiors we create contain the stories of who we are, where we came from and what we value. Let your home be a reflection of you and tell your story.
