Making Your Home A Happy Place

Well, we’ve experienced a mild winter here so far, that hasn’t lasted too long, (thankfully), and when we’re trying to get warm and cosy in our homes have you noticed that it’s just not working?

Did you know your home can change your mood?

So I thought I’d share some easy solutions.

There’s not a potted plant in sight.

We all know the advantage of living plants with bright green leaves breathing life into your home.  Houseplants purify the air indoors and studies have shown that placing a plant in a bare spot can help reduce stress.

Your entry is a ‘drop-everything-here’ zone.

Feng Shui principles hold a clear entryway in high regard. Can you open your door without hitting anything?  Do you have space for storage whether a cupboard, storage box or dresser?  Finding the perfect storage can be a challenge, sometimes you need to think outside the box.

Your dining room is painted a cool blue.

Certain blue hues can fee chilly instead of inviting while some research has found that the colour is actually an appetite suppressant.  Tones of orange, red and yellow will stimulate your appetite, perhaps not what everyone is looking for if trying to lose weight.

Your curtains are hung too low.

To make you room feel lofty instead of squat, hang your curtains closer to the ceiling rather than from the top of the window frame.  And extend past the sides of the window to allow maximum natural light in.

All you accessories are a solid colour.

When choosing cushions, throws and wall coverings, don’t make the mistake of being matchy-matchy.  Give your room texture and personality by mixing different patterns and colours.  Same tone solids will appear flat and not very energizing.

So a few simple changes might make the difference you’ve been looking for.
