It’s goodbye to the cooler months and hello to the warmer ones as we welcome the endless summers Queensland is renowned for. Now it’s time to strip down our interiors and allow the freshness of spring to shine through. Pack away all those blankets and throws, open up the window coverings and let the cool spring breeze blow in.

For an affordable and simple way of transforming interiors walls, look at the latest applications that add big impact with little effort. Not only do they look great, they’re modern and chic, but best of all they can be changed with your seasonal mood. Your plain walls will never be the same again.

  1. Wall stickers are self-adhesive and easily removable – meaning a new look in no time at all. There’s something for all ages, fun designs for kid’s rooms to pretty motifs and iconically cool designs. Most self-adhesive stickers can be applied not only to painted surfaces, but glass, cupboards and laminate.

  1. Wallpapers have come along way and can now have a place in your home. The great Australian designer, Florence Broadhurst’s (She hails from our own Mt Perry.), signature prints have almost single-handedly brought the designs back to the forefront of international trends. Her retro designs, use of metallic and oriental inspired designs are legendary. High impact with colour-ways and designs demand attention.

Don’t panic, it’s not like it was in the ‘70’s when a whole room needed that attention. A feature wall, or just a panel in the right place can look spectacular.

  1. Artwork, the most common form of decorating a wall. Common doesn’t mean cheap and nasty. Exquisite collectable pieces of unique works of art can be purchased that will suit every taste and budget. Unsure of what exactly your taste is? Why not visit local art galleries as well as those in major cities to see what draws your attention. There are so many talented artists bursting onto the scene there’s no excuse not to find that special piece.

  1. Decorative paint finishes are an inexpensive way to change the mood of a room. They can be as simple as a feature colour, to a textured finish such as suede effects and metallics.

  1. Tiles and stone walling systems aren’t just limited to the exterior. Why not add real texture, add a few up or down lights and presto. Tiles come in all sizes from 20mm mosaics to 500-600mm tiles.  Let your imagination go free, be inspired by nature.

And finally…

  1. Let us not forget to look into your own cupboards. Do you have a fetish for collecting decorative plates, love to take family photos?  Take out your collection and practice arranging them on the floor till you feel comfortable, then attach them to your wall.  For photos, black and white has more impact then colour, as they’re easy on the eye. Use simple black frames and repeat the arranging till you get it just right.

Lighting used to highlight artwork or just on its own can look fabulous. With these simple and affordable ideas, start transforming your interior walls into a work of art.
